On Thursday 19th May, The German punk rock band Beatsteaks treated their fans to a night to remember at KOKO in Camden. Peter Baumann, Stefan Hircher, Alexander Ross Waag and Bernd Kurtzke founded the Beatsteaks in 1995. Stefan and Alexander were later replaced by Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß, Thomas Götz and Torsten Scholz. The band recorded their first album in 1997 entitled "48/49", named after the number of their rehearsal space. Their second and third albums were released in 1999 and 2002 respectively, but it wasn't until 2004 in Berlin that they achieved their breakthrough success with their fourth album, "Smack Smash". The second single from this album called "I Don't Care As Long As You Sing" won them Best German Act during the MTV European Music Awards in 2004. Again in 2007 they were nominated in the category of Best German Act on the EMAs but won the listeners prize, 1Live Krone for the best Live Act. Beatsteaks released their most recent album "Boombox" on January 28th, 2011. Some of their hit singles include "Let Me In", "Hello Joe", "Hand In Hand" and "Milk and Honey". Our reporters Flaminia, Karen and Zoe were at KOKO to find out from fans what makes them different, what they like about their music, their favourite tracks and albums and what they like about their new album.
