On Thursday 19th April 2012, die-hard fans of singer and musical star Olivia Newton-John were in for a treat when they were allowed a glimpse of the musical icon and a chance to meet the lady herself at the book signing of her latest cook book at Waterstones, Piccadilly. An advocate of healthy living, this latest cook book of Olivia’s titled Livwise offers sage advice and simple easy to follow recipes that are nutritious and above all tasty, allowing for a healthy and happy lifestyle for those who follow them. The English-Australian singer and actress has sold a multitude of records with world wide sales clocking over 100 million and a number of singles and albums achieving gold and platinum status. Her success in the music world confirms her as one of the biggest female recording artists in history with a career spanning over 40 years. Getting her first break representing Britain in the Eurovision song contest, her entry “Long Live Love” placed her in fourth position, with the winner that year famously being Swedish pop group ABBA. Smash hit chart success followed with Olivia scoring a string of hits with tracks the likes of “I Honestly Love You”, “Take Me Home, Country Roads” and “What Is Life” fully confirming her as an one of the music scene’s most prominent female solo artists. But of course, fans will always know her for her lead role in the movie musical ‘Grease’, starring alongside John Travolta as Sandy. Performing on tracks such as “Summer Nights”, “You’re the one that I want” and “Hopelessly devoted to you”, these popular songs made ‘Grease’ the most successful movie musical ever and forever enshrined itself as one of the most iconic and popular musicals of all time with fans. More musical film appearances were on the card with her appearance in fantasy musical ‘Xanadu’, starring alongside legendary musical performer Gene Kelly. The film also spawned the title track “Xanadu”, written by ELO frontman Jeff Lynne, the track was another chart success for Newton-John and remains one of her most loved and popular songs. Looking back at a long and vast career, Olivia Newton-John remains active in the public eye with herself acting as an activist for environmental and animal rights issues. She returned to screens recently with an appearance on smash hit television show ‘Glee’, recreating her famous music video to single “Physical” with lead character Sue Sylvester, thus introducing her work to a new audience of younger fans. Signing copies of her book, fans came in their numbers to see Olivia Newton-John. Present at the Waterstones bookstore in Piccadilly were of course WinkBall video reporters Dean and Fred. Speaking to fans that had travelled to see Olivia, they asked attendees what had brought them to this event, how long have they been fans of Olivia Newton-John and what is it they love about her and makes her so special? Despite seeing Olivia in the flesh, hardcore fans would certainly keep things civil and not let things get too “Physical” when meeting their idol.
